Weight Management

Help your pet achieve a balanced weight with our weight management program.

Excess weight is among the top health problems in cats and dogs. While being slightly overweight might seem to be a minor issue, it’s important to know that excess weight and obesity can cause numerous other health issues.

How does being overweight impact my pet’s health?

A cat or dog that is overweight or obese can suffer from joint problems, have a weaker immune system, and an increased risk of diseases like diabetes, high blood pressure, gastrointestinal disorders, and beyond. Your pet’s excess weight should be considered a serious problem. If you think your animal might be overweight, contact your veterinarian.

How can I tell if my cat or dog is overweight?

The best way to tell if your pet is overweight is a trip to the vet. At every checkup, we’ll weigh your animal and record the results in their file. This allows the veterinarian to note any fluctuations in your pet’s weight, and to quickly inform you if there’s been a change. They will be able to accurately calculate your cat’s or dog’s ideal weight based on information such as breed, sex, size, age, etc.

How can I help my cat or dog lose weight?

Your veterinarian can work with you to come up with a simple, effective weight-loss plan for your pet. Weight loss programs for pets vary, based on the animal and their individual needs. It could look like:

  • Adjusting the type of food your pet gets and the amount
  • Setting objectives
  • Scheduling a medical follow-up
  • Implementing an exercise regimen
  • etc.
